Top Tips for Makeup Application
A Flawless Face
If you have one makeup goal it is to always makes sure that you’re amplifying the silhouette of your eyes, cheekbones and lips – maximise the impact of your already beautiful features, this is the future of makeup.
When creating our flawless make up tutorial, we never really think about the most important tool.. your mirror! We often forget about the mirror we are using when creating our look and beautifying ourselves. As anyone who’s ever used one of those stick-up locker mirrors between classes or after a gym session can attest, a poor-quality mirror can make the difference between a flawless foundation and one that is streaky, patchy, or crinkly around the edges. And let’s face it – everyone wants to look their best, whether you’re preparing for a night out, have a big job interview, or you’re just going through your everyday routine
Prep Like a Pro
Now we’ve covered the most important aspect to creating a flawless face, it’s important that you prep your skin. When it comes to catwalk shows, gala, etc. Makeup experts spend a lot of time prepping the skin; sometimes this can take 20 minutes and the makeup takes 2 minutes. Don’t skimp on massage products into your skin, after all it’s the massage which boosts circulation and makes the skin look brighter. We also recommend that if you’ve had a spray tan prior to your makeup application, you take extra care and consideration when applying your makeup, this is to avoid patches and uneven skin tone.
Less is Always More
Once you start layering on your products, don’t over do it. The majority of women use way too much foundation, if your foundation comes with a pump – one pump usually does the trick. Simply blend a few of the drops of foundation from the centre of the face outwards with a damp Beauty Blender or a brush. That keeps it from soaking up the product and makes it look more natural, not like you tried to cover something.
Understand Colour Theory
While we’re not suggesting you go and memorize the colour wheel, having a basic understanding of it goes a long way. And with makeup, opposites attract. Looking to cover redness? Go for a green primer. Struggling to disguise deep-blue under eyes? Shocker, orange concealer is your new best friend. And if you want to make your eyes stand out, it’s the same thing. Bronze and gold shadows make blue eyes even more piercing, while aubergine and purple shades make green eyes shine.
Be a Texture Expert
While colour is certainly important, texture is everything. Choosing the right formula for your skin can make the difference between a dry, patchy-looking complexion and one that seemingly glows from the inside out. It’s best to choose those formulas that compliment your natural skin texture. Those with dry skin can handle heavier creams, while those with oily skin should opt for thinner, long-wearing stains, liquids, and, in some instances, powders.
Know What Works for You
Although experimentation is all good, once you find something that works for you, stick with it!
It’s fun to play, but once you find it, you’ll have such an ‘ahhh’ moment and you won’t have to think about it every day.
