How To Perfect Your Skincare Routine

How To Perfect Your Skincare Routine

The skin is the largest organ of the body, and what you put on it matters. It is important to take care of your skin from the inside out with scientifically proven supplements. A healthy balanced diet, good water intake and regular exercise are great for your skin, but a customized daily skincare routine is a must for optimum skin health & a healthy glow.

It goes without saying our skin faces the everyday elements from pollution to the weather, to hormone break outs and natural ageing. It’s ok if you’re noticing fine lines or wrinkles, or if your pores aren’t as clear as they used to be, that’s normal. But there are things you can do to keep your skin looking its best for longer.

Skincare Is Lifestyle Change Not Overnight Fix

A good skincare routine is a process, not an overnight fix. It takes time and dedication to get to know your skin and figure out what works best for you.

It is a long term thing too, so when you do achieve the goal with your skin, it’s very important you don’t then stop the routine as this could lead to you going backwards with your skin and unfortunately having to start from scratch. Be sure to keep your routine and skincare as a lifelong on going practice to ensure the best results.

So if you’re just starting out, it is important to manage your expectations. In fact, the first few weeks of your new skincare regimen may feel a little frustrated, nothing seems to be happening and you may even notice some purging – the skin releasing toxins and more blemishes. But hang in there — give it at least 8-12 weeks before deciding whether or not the routine is working for you.

Perfecting Your Skincare Routine:

Don’t Expect Too Much From One Product

You might have heard about miracle products that can clear up acne or prevent wrinkles, but those types of miracles are simply not possible with over-the-counter products alone. If you rely solely on those products, you’ll be disappointed when they don’t work as promised (but don’t give up — there could be something else in your routine, diet or lifestyle that’s causing issues).

Choose Your Products Wisely

Choose your products based on what they do and how they feel on your skin. Always follow the advice from a qualified skin practitioner, it’s important not to choose products based purely on the price, social influencers or marketing claims; instead, look at ingredients lists and compare them with other products. Your skin is not the same as your friends or that celebrity on the internet.

Cleanse Your Face Daily

The first step in any good skincare routine is cleansing your face. This will remove dirt, oil and bacteria from your skin and allow you to apply other products. It’s important to note that you should cleanse twice a day including once in the morning and a double cleanse at night. If you have sensitive skin, use a mild cleanser or soap-free cleanser designed especially for sensitive skin. Always rinse thoroughly with warm water after washing, then pat dry with a towel or soft cloth.

Moisturise Daily and Use SPF, Whether It’s Hot or Cold Outside!

Moisturisers help prevent dryness, which without using can lead to premature wrinkles, roughness, flaking and even acne breakouts. Choose a moisturiser that’s right for you by choosing one that contains ingredients that match your skin type (for example: oily skin or acne-prone). If you have oily skin, look for an oil-free moisturiser; if you have dry skin, choose an oil-based moisturiser that won’t clog pores or cause breakouts. Use moisturisers immediately after cleansing, followed by a high quality, broad-spectrum SPF. Some medical grade sunscreens double up and your moisturiser and these are fantastic if your time-starved and like a quick morning routine. You will need a separate night cream as SPF is not needed during the night and will work on more of your concerns.

Get a Facial

Facials are an investment in your skin and overall skincare. Choose your facial to the results you desire, if you want to relax, have lymphatic drainage and lots of facial massage choose a spa facial, if you are looking for results driven facials to work on a specific skin concern choose a medical grade facial.

At Innovations Beauty Clinic, we’re proud to specialize in a wide range of relaxing and results driven skincare treatments. Exfoliate

It’s always advisable to use an exfoliating product containing a clinically developed acid such as an AHA or a BHA once or twice a week to help remove any dead skin cells. Before you go ahead and purchase an acid exfoliator it is imperative to speak to skincare expert, who can advise you on the most suitable product for your skin. There is also the option of a retinol exfoliating product with massive benefits in terms of skin cell turnover, brightness, reduction of scarring and pigmentation. It is also incredible for anyone wanting anti-ageing when paired with a broad-spectrum SPF.

Apply SPF

Apply sun cream to protect against UV damage every morning before heading outside. Whether rain or shine an SPF is crucial, even on the cloudiest days your are at risk of UV damage. Your SPF should be SPF40 or higher and contain UVA/UVB protection ingredients like zinc oxide or titanium dioxide — these ingredients offer broad spectrum coverage against both UVA and UVB rays!

Get Enough Sleep

Sleep helps with everything from stress levels to inflammation and cell regeneration, which helps maintain healthy skin and prevent wrinkles down the road.

Eat & Drink Well

Drink plenty of water and choose foods rich in antioxidants like berries and green leafy vegetables; they’ll help protect against sun damage and keep your skin looking youthful longer!
